Short Shirts and Midi Skirts

Happy Friday! Counting down to Valentine’s Day! This fun, flirty look is perfect for date night with your Valentine (or Galentine!). As you know, I’m a sucker for crop tops and high waisted midi skirts. Today’s post shows you how to transition this trend for colder weather. Processed with VSCOcam with s3 preset Processed with VSCOcam with s3 preset

My cropped turtleneck and striped shell are both by Nicole Miller. I found the cropped turtleneck last year at one of my favorite Houston boutiques, French Cuff Co. Mine is sold out, but I found a similar one from H&M for $12.99! **PSA-French Cuff is having a Nicole Miller trunk show. Check it out and snag one of her beautiful Spring pieces. **
Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetI scored this striped Nicole Miller crop top at Tootsies’ semi-annual sale last Summer. Keep your eyes posted for this sale, ladies! You can find some amazing pieces for up to 70% off. This exact top is available to rent from Rent the Runway for only $40! Like this look but not sure about crop tops? You can substitute the cropped turtleneck for a white button down and get the same chic affect! *Stylist note-make sure to tuck the white button down into your high waisted skirt so that you don’t lose your waistline.Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetThis skirt is one of my favorite purchases from Express last year. In fact, I liked it so much I also bought it in white. Unfortunately, it’s no longer available at Express, but I found a similar style by Eliza J. at Nordstrom. High waist, a-line, midi skirts are flattering for a variety of heights and body shapes. This silhouette helps create a natural hourglass shape so make sure to wear something fitted (and preferably tucked in) on top.Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetI have a secret…and lucky you, I’m going to share it. I found a little gem of a designer consignment store in Houston (Tanglewood area) called Repeat Couture. The owner, Ashley Zarr, does an incredible job of finding amazing designer pieces and sells them at a deep discount. I first saw this Valentino clutch on her instagram (@repeatcouture-follow her!), and was at her store the next day to purchase it. As much as I love this bag, I likely would not have paid full price for it. That’s the best part about shopping consignment, designer duds without designer prices!Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetWardrobe Styling 101-every woman needs a black leather pointed toe pump. I have gone through so many throughout the years that I finally decided to invest in a pair. Mine are Manolo Blahnik and are hands down the most comfortable designer shoe I have ever worn. If you’re not ready to invest in a designer pair yet, I also really love the “Carra” pump by Ivanka Trump and the “Jackpot” pump by Nine West.Processed with VSCOcam with s3 presetThis look is so fun and girly, and even though my style is typically more edgy that’s what I love about fashion. I can look edgy one day and super girly the next. I also love that adding a simple accessory like a pair of sunglasses can add a different vibe to your look. These Kate Spade sunglasses definitely added some retro flare to this one.

Rounding out this post with some Friday Fashion Words of Wisdom:

  • Fashion is Fun
  • Don’t take it too seriously
  • Wear what you like and what makes you feel good

Stay tuned for another Valentine’s Day inspired post coming up soon!
